2026 renewal checklist
FDA food facility registration renewal: the 2026 checklist
Short answer: a food facility that is required to register must renew between 1 October 2026, 12:01 AM and 31 December 2026, 11:59 PM. FDA treats an unrenewed registration as expired after the window closes.

Use this checklist before the window opens
- Confirm the facility is in scope. The rule applies to domestic and foreign facilities that manufacture, process, pack, or hold food for US consumption, subject to exemptions. It is about the facility activity—not an Amazon account or the country of a distributor.
- Separate food renewal from other FDA processes. This is the food-facility renewal cycle. Do not substitute a cosmetic registration, a drug-establishment annual registration, an importer record, or a marketplace request.
- Check account access now. Find the FDA registration account and the person authorized to submit for the facility. Do not leave recovery to the last week of December.
- Check the exact facility identity. Have the legal name, physical address, trade names, food product categories, contact details, and authorized submitter ready. If a fact changed, make the filing reflect the current record.
- Check the UFI. FDA recognizes the D-U-N-S number as an acceptable unique facility identifier. The facility identity and address should be reconciled before submitting.
- For a foreign facility, verify the US agent. The agent must meet FDA's US-presence requirements and be able to receive FDA communications. A mailbox or answering service is not a substitute for a qualified agent.
- Submit the renewal—not merely an update. FDA says updating and renewing are different functions. A previous update does not replace the biennial renewal.
- Retain proof. Save the renewal confirmation, the submitted facility information, and a record of any change that was folded into the renewal.
What the deadline means
FDA's current 2026 user guide sets the renewal period at 1 October 2026, 12:01 AM through 31 December 2026, 11:59 PM. If the registration is not renewed by the deadline, FDA says it is considered expired and removed from the account. There is no FDA charge for the registration or the renewal itself.
For a foreign facility, do not confuse the US agent with the importer of record, FSVP importer, customs broker, or marketplace account owner. Those may be different parties with different duties.
Questions people ask at renewal time
Do supplement facilities renew in 2026?
Generally, a dietary-supplement facility is a food facility for registration purposes. The owner or operator should assess the actual activity and any exemption that could apply to that facility.
My address changed. Can I just update the record?
FDA distinguishes updates from renewal. During the 2026 window, complete the renewal and include current required information; use FDA's current instructions for the specific record.
Do I need to pay FDA to renew?
No. FDA does not charge for food-facility registration, update, renewal, or cancellation. A fee from a private firm is its service fee, not an FDA fee.
What should a China-based factory prepare?
Prepare the real manufacturing address, legal entity name, food categories, current D-U-N-S record, authorized signatory, and responsive US-agent contact. See our foreign food facility US-agent guide for the role boundaries.
